Sad Demise of Sr. Roseline Kanjirathinkel PHJC
Our beloved Sr. Roseline Kanjirathinkel, PHJC reached her eternal abode leaving in our hearts an irreplaceable vacuum. She was diagnosed with the last stage of breast cancer in August 2019. Thereafter, she underwent medication and treatment and was under the loving care of our sisters here in Seva Nilaya. Even in her days of sickness she was joyful, calm, hopeful

First Profession of Vows
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic around the world, on August 15 th the foundation day of our Congregation our second year novices Anitha Crasta, and Sujatha Arulappa celebrated their first profession of vows during the Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Rev. Fr. Naveen Saldanha OP, Provincial of The Dominicans. The vows were received by Sr. Flora PHJC, the Provincial Superior of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, St. Mary’s Province, Bangalore.

Covid Relief Work by PHJC Sisters in Sebastiarpuram, Tamil Nadus
PHJC Sisters have been serving in Sebastiarpuram and nearby villages from 1990. It is located in Pattukkottai Tehsil of Thanjavur district in Tamil Nadu. The people of these villages are daily wage workers, fisher folk, self-employed or in casual work, and earning low incomes. The lockdown has simply worsened the misery of these poor people.

While the lockdown is laudable and very much required to fight the pandemic, it has also lead to numerous problems, especially for the under privileged section of the society who live in a ‘hand to mouth’ situation throughout the year. Millions of daily wage earners have lost their jobs and are struggling to fend for themselves and their families.

Bicentenary Birthday of St. Katharina Kasper, our Foundress
Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ celebrates the bicentenary birth anniversary of their Foundress St. Katharina Kasper on 26 th May, 2020 amidst Covid-19 pandemic and nationwide lockdown. Our General Leadership Team prepared a special prayer for this great event and circulated it to all the provinces and pro-regions of our Congregation.

Opening of the Golden Jubilee celebration of PHJC presence in India and Perpetual Profession of Sr. Jansi Mary and Sr. Suganya
Today, 25th November 2019, marks an important day for Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ in India as we celebrated a twin event: the opening of the Golden Jubilee year of PHJC presence in India and the Final Profession of our sisters, Sr. Jansi Mary and Sr. Suganya.
The celebration took place in our chapel at Seva Nilaya, 38/4 Davis Road, Bangalore.

Class on History of the Congregation and Life of St. Katharina Kasper our Foundress by Sr. Christeta
We had refreshment course from Sr. Christeta PHJC from Maria Hilf Province Germany, on world and church history that influenced the origin and development of Congregations and Orders in general and the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ in Particular.
The course was conducted in three batches

Promise ceremony on 1st September 2019
At 7am on 1st September 2019, the fourth group of associate candidates made their promise. Mrs Amita Sima,Mrs Ann Priya Pinto,Mrs Dolly Veronica and Mrs Gila Pereira were privileged to become associate members of the PHJC community, Bangalore.
The promise ceremony was held in the chapel in Seva Nilaya on Davis Road. The Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr. Luis with Fr Mariano as the concelebrant.

The General Chapter of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ
The General Chapter of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ was held from 25th April to 16th May 2019 with the theme “Venture into the Deep.” On the 25th we celebrated the Solemn Opening Mass imploring the Spirit of God to bless and accompany the whole group during the forthcoming days of the Chapter.

Golden and Silver Jubilee Celebration
On the 30th May 2019, Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ celebrated the golden jubilee of the religious profession of Sr. Viannis and the silver jubilees of Srs. Jacintha, Justin, Roshni, Sneha, Sabitha, Vandhana and Vinaya. Srs. Sneha, Vandhana and Vinaya are members of the St. Joseph province and were invited to celebrate with their companions. Most Rev. Dr. Peter Machdo, Archbishop of Bangalore, presided over the Holy Eucharist and Rt. Rev. Chacko Thottumarickal SVD, Bishop of Indore and nine priests co-celebrated with him.

Annual Retreat
As per our Chapter 2016 decision, a course combined with a retreat on Psycho-Spiritual Integration was arranged on May 25-29 and June 1-5. There were fifty participants.
It was indeed a unique experience for most of the participants. The retreat presenter, Rev. Fr. KC Thomas Sdb, brought the participants to a new awareness of the connection between body, mind, and spirit and how each is interrelated with the whole person.

Thanksgiving Mass
24.11: November 24th, 2018 was a memorable day in the history of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, St. Mary Province, Bangalore, as we celebrated the Thanksgiving Mass in honour of the canonization of our foundress, St. Katharina Kasper in our parish church. Rt. Rev. Bishop Emeritus Bernard Moras solicited the Eucharist Concelebrated by Rt. Rev. Bishop Jose Porunnedom the bishop of Mananthavady Syro- Malabar diocese, our Parish Priest John Abraham, along with many priests.

Canonization of Blessed Catherine Kasper
For the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, the canonization of our Foundress, Saint Katharina Kasper, is a confirmation of what we have always known and treasured about her life and holiness. Our gratitude stems from the recognition of the universal Church that God’s goodness is manifested in her, so that we might share her witness of gospel living with the world. This simple but deeply spiritual peasant woman was canonized on Oct. 14 in St. Peter’s Square in Rome, Italy, along with six other holy men and women of great charity.

First and Final Profession
Called to love and serve called to serve
Today, on May 24, the Feast of Mary Help of Christians was truly a grace – filled day for all of us as Sr. Ramya PHJC made her Perpetual Profession of Vows: Chastity, Poverty and Obedience in the Congregation of the Poor Handmaids Jesus Christ during the solemn liturgy presided by Rt. Rev. Dr. Bernard Moras the Archbishop of Bangalore.

PHJC Constitution Retreat
Retreat on (PHJC) Constitutions took place month of June and July. The resource person was Sr. Joetta PHJC from the USA Province. Sister arrived on June 11th and departed on July 5th. Were three retreats

Silver ruby and Golden Jubilee celebration
On May 12th, 2018 the Seva Nilaya chapel in Bangalore was filled with the sounds of jubilation, praise, and thanksgiving as our Jubilarians Sisters Alois, Vincent, Suso celebrating 50, Sisters Anita, Lena, Vimala and Pauli 40, and Sr Jebamalai 25 years of religious profession. The main celebrant Rev. Fr. Sahaya John director of NBCLC (National Biblical and Catechetical Centre) began the solemn celebration of the Eucharist with a note of appreciation to the Jubilarians for their life of commitment through which they added joy to the community, witness values to the society and holiness of the Church. GPPR 2018
The General, Provincial and Pro Regional leadership meeting of our Congregation was held in Dernbach, Germany from September 24 - 30, 2018 with the theme, “I am the Door.” There were around 50 members representing from six Provinces and four Pro Regions. Sr. Gonzalo, the General Superior, welcomed the gathering and officially opened the session.
