Sr. Deepa Thayilkalariammakel, PHJC, one of the pioneer members of the PHJC mission in India, was called by the Lord to her heavenly abode on 11th June at 5.45PM. After a brief period of illness and a few days in the intensive care unit at St. Philomena’s Hospital, she was brought back to Seva Nilaya. She remained bedridden for several days, receiving devoted care from community sisters.

July 10th 2022: Sr. Johnsia PHJC, at the age of 82 passed into eternity after a prolonged illness. Sister was a nurse, vocation promotor and rendered pastoral care to the people in her many years of selfless service. She was a devoted, faithful, committed and simple and loving sister among us. She had a peaceful death surrounded by the PHJC sisters of the community at Maria Bhawan convent, Pravithanam. Dear Sister, we miss you and may God grant you eternal bliss.

October 9th to 12th: Sr. Stella and the Leadership Team visited our Province. The leadership group of North and South had been to Visa Office to apply for Visa in Bangalore. We spend a quality time together, praying, sharing, exchanging views especially on structural changes of the congregation. We had a happy and meaningful time together.

November 25th 2021: Sr. Roshni, the Provincial Councilor along with Sr. Silvia joined the inauguration and blessing of the Novitiate house in St. Joseph’s Province at Tillore, M. P. Sr. Roshni had the first visit to the North mission in her life time. North East Mission:
The St. Mary’s Province have begun the North East Mission in Imphal, Itanagar Arunachal Pradesh and Thayong in Manipur. We collaborate and work with SDB mission in both the places. We render education and pastoral ministry in these missions and the faith formation is also focused in these missions. We do hold the open doors to promote vocation from the faith rich parishes of both missions.

Sad Demise of Sr. Roseline Kanjirathinkel PHJC
Our beloved Sr. Roseline Kanjirathinkel, PHJC reached her eternal abode leaving
in our hearts an irreplaceable vacuum. She was diagnosed with the last stage of
breast cancer in August 2019. Thereafter, she underwent medication and treatment

Covid Relief Work by PHJC Sisters in Sebastiarpuram, Tamil Nadus
PHJC Sisters have been serving in Sebastiarpuram and nearby villages from 1990. It is located in Pattukkottai Tehsil of Thanjavur district in Tamil Nadu. The people of these villages are daily wage workers, fisher folk, self-employed or in casual work, and earning low incomes. The lockdown has simply worsened the misery of these poor people.

Promise ceremony on 1st September 2019
At 7am on 1st September 2019, the fourth group of associate candidates made their promise. Mrs Amita
Sima,Mrs Ann Priya Pinto,Mrs Dolly Veronica and Mrs Gila Pereira were privileged to become associate
members of the PHJC community, Bangalore.
The promise ceremony was held in the chapel in Seva Nilaya on Davis Road. The Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr. Luis with Fr Mariano as the concelebrant.

Golden and Silver Jubilee Celebration
On the 30th May 2019, Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ celebrated the golden jubilee of the religious profession of Sr. Viannis and the silver jubilees of Srs. Jacintha, Justin, Roshni, Sneha, Sabitha, Vandhana and Vinaya.
Srs. Sneha, Vandhana and Vinaya are members of the St. Joseph province and were invited to celebrate with their companions.
Most Rev. Dr. Peter Machdo, Archbishop of Bangalore, presided over the Holy Eucharist and Rt. Rev. Chacko Thottumarickal SVD, Bishop of Indore and nine priests co-celebrated with him.

Annual Retreat
As per our Chapter 2016 decision, a course combined with a retreat on Psycho-Spiritual Integration was arranged on May 25-29 and June 1-5. There were fifty participants.
It was indeed a unique experience for most of the participants. The retreat presenter, Rev. Fr. KC Thomas Sdb, brought the participants to a new awareness of the connection between body, mind, and spirit and how each is interrelated with the whole person.

Canonization of Blessed Catherine Kasper
For the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ, the canonization of our Foundress, Saint Katharina Kasper, is a confirmation of what we have always known and treasured about her life and holiness. Our gratitude stems from the recognition of the universal Church that God’s goodness is manifested in her, so that we might share her witness of gospel living with the world. This simple but deeply spiritual peasant woman was canonized on Oct. 14 in St. Peter’s Square in Rome, Italy, along with six other holy men and women of great charity.
